Photon Sports is proud to announce that Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) has independently validated Photon Sports’ 3D sprint profiling technology against the validated 1080 Sprint as the criterion measure.
Jonas Sjöberg, Founder of Photon Sports, commented on the recent validation:
“I’m proud to share a major milestone for Photon Sports — an independent validation study conducted by SHU has confirmed the accuracy of our 3D performance measurement system. The results show exceptionally strong agreement with a previously validated technology, verifying the precision we’ve built through years of development and testing.
From the beginning, I believed that physics and sport should speak the same language. Yet, elite-level performance data was locked behind high-cost lab equipment and time-consuming setups — or simply unavailable to most athletes. For me, it started with curiosity and a challenge from a childhood friend: ‘Isn’t there a faster, easier way to measure how athletes really move?’
So I set out to solve a simple question with a complex answer: Can we measure human performance anywhere — with scientific precision — and make it available to everyone? The independent study concluded:
» Very low bias between devices (−0.014 to 0.002)
» Very low Coefficient Variation (CV) < 1.5%
» Minimal systematic bias across all splits
“Photon Sports sprint profiling technology is a valid device for assessing 30m sprint times, with a degree of accuracy to a 1m split. This provides sport scientists with the confidence to invest in such a system to utilise for their speed profiling requirements.”
