Unique league-wide database after 25,000 completed tests – partnership extended for another three years

Photon Sports and Elitfotboll Dam (EFD) – the association for elite women’s football in Sweden and representing OBOS Damallsvenskan, Sweden’s top women’s league, have extended their partnership for an additional three years. Since the collaboration began, it has resulted in a unique league-wide database with more than 25,000 completed tests.

Under the new agreement, Photon Sports will continue as a central partner to OBOS Damallsvenskan. Through the research-based measurement technology and advanced analytics from Photon Sports, the clubs in Sweden’s top women’s league will maintain access to reliable, directly actionable data on player explosiveness and speed. The ambition is to further strengthen a data-driven training environment where performance, recovery, and injury prevention are fully integrated.

Since the start of the partnership, a league-wide database unique in an international context has been established. During the 2022-2023 seasons, a pilot study was conducted including tests from 300 players. By systematically collecting data points over time, international benchmark values for women’s football players have been created. This knowledge base provides clubs with a shared framework to monitor player development, support better day-to-day decision-making, and enable comparability across the league.

“The agreement with Photon Sports gives us the opportunity to continue developing OBOS Damallsvenskan with the support of data, research, and proven methodology. It is an important step in strengthening training quality, performance, and injury prevention within Swedish women’s elite football. We are very pleased to extend the agreement for another three years”, says Kirsten van de Ven, Sporting Director of Elitfotboll Dam.

“Together with the clubs, a knowledge base has been built that not only provides valuable benchmark data but also changes how coaches and players make decisions in everyday training and match preparation. The next three years will focus on turning research-based data into measurable sporting impact and continuing to contribute to the development of one of Europe’s top women’s leagues”, says Anders Tånger, CEO of Photon Sports.

Over the past years, testing and analysis have clearly demonstrated the power of data-driven development – both in understanding performance and in reducing injury load in new and more precise ways. With this extension, Photon Sports remains committed to long-term impact and continuous innovation within Sweden’s top women’s league.
