What is a 5-10-5 Pro Agility Test?

The 5-10-5 Pro Agility Test, also known as the 5-10-5 shuttle, is a standard agility, or COD drill widely used in sports like football, basketball and tennis to measure an athlete’s ability to change direction quickly. The test involves rapid lateral movements and is designed to assess speed, coordination, and explosive power. Athletes start at a centerline, sprint five metres to one side, then sprint ten metres in the opposite direction, and finally return five metres back to the starting point.

Why test 5-10-5 Pro Agility Test?

Measures Real-World Athleticism
This test mimics the rapid directional changes and bursts of speed required in many sports, making it a valuable measure of an athlete’s game-day readiness.

Identifies Strengths and Weaknesses
It provides insights into an athlete’s balance, footwork, acceleration, and ability to decelerate. Knowing these factors helps coaches create targeted training programs.

Monitors Progress
Repeated testing allows athletes and coaches to track improvements over time, ensuring that training regimens are effective.

Reduces Injury Risk
By identifying weaknesses in agility, the test helps in designing training plans that strengthen muscles and joints, reducing the risk of injury during intense play.

The system also provides KPIs directly related to the deceleration and acceleration phases immediately before and after turning in both directions.

Other COD tests

Studies show that 85% of sprints in football involve a change of direction, and 75% of goals are made as a direct result of this. On average, a player makes around 700 changes of direction per match, with 60% of goals being preceded by a sprint.
